WELCOME TO UCONN ADULT LEARNING PROGRAM WEBSITE | | |
Please contact us if you are interested in joining our active and growing program of seminars and activities. The new programs begin January 30th and contain many interesting events. For $100 for the year (Fall & Spring) or $55 per term, members may attend as many classes as they choose.
MESSAGE FROM THE CO-CHAIRS OFFICE MOVE: In January, 2012, the ALP office left the UConn Hartford campus because UConn could no longer provide ALP with space. The ALP office is now located at Duncaster. The ALP mailing and Emailing addresses remain the same and a new telephone number (860-380-5038) as been added. The ALP - UConn relationship remains very important to both organizations. Carol Matzke and Pete Cruikshank, ALP Co-Chairs

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Date and time: SINGLE SESSION WITH STATE TREASURER DENISE NAPIER State Treasurer Denise Napier, Connecticut’s chief investment officer, or her deputy, Jonathan Harris, will speak about the effect of the current global uncertainties in the markets on Connecticut investments and the financial future of the state. The date has been set for April 19, at 1PM. It will be necessary for you to park at the Temple Bethel Synagogue since there is a Seabury event also taking place at that time. There will be no parking available at Seabury. The Seabury bus will shuttle you from the Synagogue to Seabury as we have done for other large membership meetings.
ALP POETRY CONTEST The fourth annual ALP Poetry Contest will be held again this spring. The deadline for submission is April 27 and envelopes postmarked later will not be entered. Three winning poems will be selected to be read by each author at the ALP Annual Meeting on June 5, 2012. In addition, one poem by each contestant will be selected to be printed in a brochure that will be distributed at the Annual Meeting. You may submit up to three poems, no longer than 50 lines each. To enter the contest, please mail two copies of each poem to the ALP office. One of the copies should have complete contact information – name, address, phone number and email address if possible — in the upper right hand corner. The other copy should have no contact or name information – it should have the poem only with no other information. Pat Hale will be the judge for this contest. She is a Connecticut poet whose work has appeared in CALYX Journal, Sow’s Ear, Dogwood, Connecticut River Review, Naugatuck River Review, and other journals. Her awards include CALYX’s 2005 Lois Cranston Memorial Poetry Prize, first prize in the 2007 Al Savard Poetry Competition, and the 2011 Sunken Garden Poetry Award. She was honored to read in the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival in June 2011. Her chapbook, Composition and Flight, was published by the Hill-Stead Museum 2011. She is a long-time member of the poetry group, the PIPS, and serves on the board of directors.
